Forum: forums Subject: ‘Average Rating: 0.0 stars’ is misleading

When there is a review, but no rating, the search result shows ‘Average Rating: 0.0 stars (1 review)’. (For examples, see the link at the bottom.)

The Average Rating: 0.0 stars part is probably misleading to all those who do not know that it corresponds to the “No review” rating option. Until I wrote my first review, I considered it a bug.

And, at any rate, 0 divided by 0 is not 0, but Indeterminate. If 0 stars were collected by 0 rating-reviewers (to coin a term), the average rating is not 0, but Indeterminate. A better term, though, would be ‘No rating’.

The following list contains some of my favourite books, but to the non-initiates it would appear that the reviewer had something particularly against the books!

I forgot to mention that "0.0 stars" is seen only when images are disabled in the browser. I am referring to this code:

<br><b>Average rating:</b> <img src="/images/stars-0-0.gif" alt="0.0 stars" title="0.0 stars"> <span style="font-size: 8pt;">(1 review)</span></td>

So, in effect I am suggesting the removal of the whole img tag ( <img src="/images/stars-0-0.gif" alt="0.0 stars" title="0.0 stars"> ) by ``No rating''.
